Formal Wear: How to Wash and Store It Safely
Category: Tutorial

The season of special occasions is here: communions, confirmations, and weddings follow one after another in May and June, bringing with them elegant attire, fine fabrics, and unforgettable memories.
But what happens after the celebration? Often, these garments are put away in the closet while still dirty, with the intention of “washing them later”—and that’s exactly where the problems begin.
Stains from food, wine, sweat, or makeup may seem invisible at first, but over time they oxidize and set into the fabric. A white or ivory dress left untreated for a long time can yellow permanently. Taking action within 24–48 hours really makes a difference.
Silk, lace, taffeta, organza, mikado: these are the most common materials in formal dresses, and all require special care. Machine washing—even on the delicate cycle—can ruin embellishments, cause the garment to lose its shape, or damage the finest fibers. Professional cleaning is often the safest choice.
After washing, how should you store a formal dress?
At our laundry’s, we also offer a professional packaging service: the dress is cleaned, treated, and stored to ensure it remains in the best possible condition for years to come.
If the garment has lace decorations, appliqués, embroidery, or multiple layers, DIY is always discouraged. A mistake can be irreversible. Bringing it to us means having the assurance that every detail is assessed before treatment—and that the result lives up to the memory it represents.
